  1. Centre to decide the inflation targets for RBI to achieve. Till now, it was RBI’s decision.
  2. Pakistan has written to UN Secretary General Ban-ki-moon on the security situation along the Line of Control and the International Border, and sought the world body’s intervention. In the letter, Adviser to the Pakistan Prime Minister Sartaj Aziz accused India of “deliberate and unprovoked violations of the ceasefire agreement.”Asking the U.N. Secretary-General to circulate the letter as an official document of the Security Council, Mr. Aziz said Islamabad believes that the world body has an important role to play in promoting the objective of peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue.
  3. The contentious and long-pending issue of codification of privileges of Parliament and State Assemblies and their members will be debated at a two-day meeting of whips of Parliament and State legislatures that commences in Goa on October 13.
  4. Probe into the October 2 explosion in Bardhaman have indicated that extremists may be taking sanctuary in Bengal. One of those arrested — suspected of belonging to the banned JMB — allegedly confessed that the bombs were being assembled for terror strikes across the border.
  5. Green-rated buildings are falling below the minimum benchmarks of their official star rating by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), says a report — “Building sense beyond the green façade of sustainable habitat” — by the Centre for Science and Environment released recently.
  6. Masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci and Vincent van Gogh will be among 300 works displayed at the Louvre Abu Dhabi. The museum, built at a cost of €500 million and set to open in December 2015, will feature paintings and sculptures from 13 of France’s most renowned collections spanning from pre-Bronze Age to Pop Art. Many of France’s grand museums, including the Louvre, Musee d’Orsay and the Palace of Versailles will loan art to Abu Dhabi as part of a 30-year collaboration with the Emirate worth €1 billion. The 64,000 sq.m. Louvre Abu Dhabi, built on the island of Saadiyet in the oil-flush Emirate, will have 6,000 square metres dedicated to permanent installations and 2,000 set aside for temporary exhibitions. Hovering above the complex will be a giant, 180-metre dome perforated with designs that will project light patterns in the shape of palm trees on the exhibition space below. In 2007, Abu Dhabi paid $520 million just to use the name of Paris’ world famous art museum.
  7. Noted lyricist Sameer will be honoured with the National Kishore Kumar Award for 2012–13. The award is given in the fields of direction, screenplay and lyrics turn by turn every year.

  13. India has been allotted the inaugural leg of the Asia Cup world-ranking archery tournament early next year. The Asia Cup, which will replace the Asian GP, will be held on the format of the annual World Cups and fetch valuable ranking points for the archers. According to a top Archery Association India (AAI) official, the first leg will be conducted in Delhi in the second week of January. The second and third legs have been allotted to Bangkok (March) and Tehran (June).
  14. Roger Federer claimed one of the few titles to have previously eluded him after he overcame a sluggish start to beat injured Frenchman Gilles Simon in the final of the Shanghai Rolex Masters.
