Swach Bharat Abhiyan: Formally launched today

PM Modi launched the campaign today on occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.


Where: 
Valmiki Colony. In 1946, Mahatma Gandhi had stayed in this colony and gave his clarion call for "Swach Bharat".

PM Narendra Modi visited Rajghat (Gandhiji ki Samadhi) and Vijay Ghat (Shastriji ki Samadhi). After that the walkathon started and PM Modi gave his speech and cleaned the Valmiki Colony.


Programme:

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan will cover 4041 statutory towns. It is expected to cost over Rs.62,009/- crore of which central plan assistance will be Rs. 14,623 crore. The campaign decided to merge Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan. Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan aimed at rural sanitation. PM Modi in his address said that the issue is beyond politics and refuted congress claims that BJP is making it appear as if nothing was done till now. He also rued the fact that 60% people still defecate in open in rural areas. He has requested corporates to build clean toilets in schools especially for girls.
